The Balance of Power

DA Premier Alan Winde has thus far been able to ignore the will of the Western Cape people because his party currently enjoys an outright majority in the Western Cape, but that majority is very small and it has been getting smaller.

If the DA loses just 4.2% or more in 2024, it will need to find a political ally in order to form a Western Cape government.

We know that this is a realistic outcome because it has already happened at local government level. In the 2021 elections, the DA lost 9.1% of the Western Cape vote. These votes went to parties like the Freedom Front Plus and the Cape Coloured Congress, both of whom supported Cape Independence, and not to the ANC who also lost 5.8% of the vote.

Polling has established that approximately 650 000 Western Cape voters support a referendum on Cape Independence and also voted DA in 2021.

If 100 000 of them vote for the Referendum Party in 2024, then the DA would have no realistic choice other than to form a government with a party supporting Cape Independence. The DA’s primary political ally in municipal governments in the Western Cape is currently the Freedom Front Plus. They have already stated on record that the price of their support would be a Cape Independence referendum. The Referendum Party and the Freedom Front Plus have already agreed to stand together on this issue.

With 100,000 votes the Referendum Party should be able to secure 2 seats in the National Parliament, and 3 seats in the Western Cape Parliament.

The Referendum Party would make a perfect coalition partner for the DA and it will only ask one thing, a referendum on Cape Independence which 79% of DA voters already support, and which the DA has already promised.

No ANC Government in the Western Cape Under Any Circumstances

The Referendum Party abhors the ANC and there are no possible circumstances under which a vote for the Referendum Party will allow the ANC to take over the Western Cape Government.

A vote for the Referendum Party will be a vote for a DA-led Western Cape. In all circumstances we promise to vote with the DA to form a government, and against the ANC. In 2021, the ANC and EFF combined obtained just 23.8% of the Western Cape vote.

Any person or party who attempts to scare voters into voting against the Referendum Party in order to keep the ANC out is being inherently dishonest. The ANC are dead in the Western Cape and they are not coming back.

Summary: RP Vote = DA government + Referendum on Cape Independence

Why was the RP formed?

South Africa is on the verge of becoming a failed state. Its institutions are falling apart, its economy has been stagnant for a decade, electricity and water supplies are no longer reliable, and we have chronic poverty, unemployment, and crime.
