PRESS RELEASE: RP Warns Of Growing Isolation After U.S. Boycott Of G20 Summit In South Africa
The Referendum Party (RP) has noted U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a planned boycott of the G20 summit in Johannesburg later this month and his call for South Africa’s expulsion from the grouping, warning that this marks a decisive moment in South Africa’s growing international isolation under ANC rule.
The announcement underscores the deepening trade crisis between South Africa and the U.S., and pours cold water on claims that a new trade deal can be reached without major concessions on the Expropriation (Without Compensation) Bill and race-based laws - issues on which the ANC has remained defiant.
RP leader Phil Craig said: “South Africa’s government has brought this isolation upon itself. Its hostility to property rights, racialised laws, and support for authoritarian regimes have made the country an unreliable partner for the free world. The result is economic decline and diplomatic isolation.”
RP warned that as global politics shifts, more democratic nations may soon follow the U.S. in taking a harder stance toward the ANC’s policies. In this environment, the Western Cape and other communities must assert their right to self-determination, engaging formally and informally with the international community to safeguard their economic and democratic interests.
The Party noted that this process has already begun, as seen through recent delegations and dialogues with U.S. stakeholders, reflecting the weakening of the ANC and the South African national government's legitimacy on the international stage.
